Today we are celebrating World Giraffe Day – a special event initiated by the Giraffe Conservation Foundation (GCF) to celebrate the tallest animal in the world on the longest night or day of the year (depending on which hemisphere you live in) – 21 June.
It is also an event to raise awareness of the challenges giraffe currently face in the wild. There are only 100,000 giraffe left in the wild, so the GCF needs your support to help save giraffe in Africa.
This year World Giraffe Day is focusing on the Masai giraffe in southern Kenya and Tanzania, with only 32,000 giraffe left in the wild in these areas. The main threat is habitat loss due to rapid housing development. To find out more, click here.
